IN A WORLD where movie reviewers sit alone in their nerd caves, talking to a camera like a real human being, ranting into a microphone when no one's there to hear them, all because their friends were "too busy" to hang out... One man dares to re-create the cinematic style of every movie he sees in a silly, over-the-top and cheap looking way, like watching a kid play with his toys, you see his passion, enthusiasm or lack thereof to every movie he sees!

Not Tarantino's best?! I'd love to see/hear you make the case for any other movie. I think there's cinema before and after this movie. It shook the foundations of how movies look and feel to its core. Apart from "The Matrix" I can't think of any other movie that defined movie history during my lifetime.
You encapsulated EVERYHING! My thoughts EXACTLY :-)
I just discovered your nice little channel. While I disagree with you about certain movies (I think "Civil War" was a subversive knockout and was one of the more important movies of 2024), your review of "Heretic" made me realize how many movies in 2024 failed to stick the landing. - "Heretic" - arguably the most engrossing movie of 2024 until the girls go down the stairs - "The Brutalist" - A grand, if incredibly frustrating achievement. What the 1st half expertly builds the 2nd half demolishes. - "The Substance" - don't even get me started - "Late night with the devil" - almost manages, but still squanders plenty of potential - "Nosferatu" - A visual and vocal marvel that starts as a horror banger, yet becomes an overlong, unsatisfying slog. That first half, tho. - "Oddity" - An unnecessary tonal shift in the 3rd act. Still, this film delivers 2024's most unsettling atmosphere. - "A Different Man" - A trippy, if eventually dragged out journey. - "MaXXXine" - just a weirdly structured letdown - hot take "Dune: Part 2" - the ending just felt frustratingly "to be continued" without the pay-off I needed. I think a strong, clever ending is the wiggle room that directors like Christopher Nolan occupy so masterfully and it's the unmentioned reason why his movies are so beloved. The ending always sticks with us. He plans it. The ending is the main focus and drive, the journey just delivers us right there. It's practically the first thing I remember when I think about any of his movies. It's right there, with the music score and everything. Denis Villeneuve arguably falls into this category as well, except he does it with less intentionality. And if I think about the movies I liked best in 2024, most of them have an ending that lingers on (but some of them are also included above, because the first part made such an impression) : - "Anora" - "Civil War" - I think the ending is chef's kiss - "Love Lies Bleeding" - "Challengers" - "Mars Express" - "Rebel RIdge" - "Inside Out 2" - "The Apprentice" - "The Penguin", "X-Men 97", "The Gentlemen" - "Saturday Night" - "Smile 2" - "Ghostlight" - "Conclave" - "There's Still Tomorrow" - "His Three Daughters" - "Memoir of a snail" - "A real pain"
Wow, dude, what an excellent video. You're amazing. I was so mortified by the last 30 minutes of The Brutalist that I literally got up and walked out of the cinema, not bothering to see the end. The worst part was the false advertising-if I had known what movie I was walking into, I would never have walked in.
This movie is amazing.
nice..
When it comes to the Disney Shorts, This is The one that shouts out true art. Now, a lot of people would talk about shorts like paperman and such, and don't get me wrong. Great shorts to be worth seeing. But I do wish a lot more people would talk about this short. The Traditional Animation, Billy Connolly's narration, the colors, the backgrounds, art direction evocating from the 1940s and 50s, the composed music, and its Moral of it all, it's very true for us all. And Nessie herself, a lot of people can agree that she, her personality and design is just absolutely adorable. As this was disney's last fully Traditional cartoon, this short was given passion as it was being made. And personally, Nessie has so much potential. If anybody hasn't seen The Ballad of Nessie before, please go give a watch. I believe she deserves more love and recognition. 2D will always stay gold.

Thank you so much for this review. After I finished the movie I felt like something was kind of wrong, didn't like it, but why? As someone interested in understanding this things, your review was the most useful of all, because it felt like you were trying to understand the movie and weren't blinded by personal problems or superficial messages like "Life is worth living for the little things". Yes, that is a good message, but I feel like Soul from Pixar made a so much better job at expressing that, and, as a more mature alternative, this movie should have tackled the argument in a smarter manner. Again, thank you for the review, since you kept an open mind in thinking that a rewatch may give more insight, as I was blindly thinking that this movie should be rated negatively.
I agree to an extent. Laszlo returning to work for Harris, after finding a seemingly stable architecture firm, was because the gentleman who rescued his family was the one who inquired on Harris’ behalf. Laszlo felt indebted, choosing to follow his artistic ambition and for the sacrifices that gentlemen took to rescue his family. There is an interpersonal connection there that cannot be ignored. This is beyond the ground of a decision, and boarders an intentional obligation. Laszlo had a drive to follow through and take risks; a character quality reflected throughout the entirety of the film. Also, as those who have seen the film know, Harris had control of Laszlo in many ways. This is a common relationship tactic for abusers. Harris was always threatened by others' successes, which is why he adapted to the plight of man - greed, pride, power, and control. He too, wanted to be great. So, the last 30 minutes of the film shined a light on the similarities of both complicated characters with two vastly different backgrounds. Rags to rich’s in two senses, even though the viewer sees their gritty differences.
I can’t say this changed my mind, but I can certainly see your point and why others enjoyed it.
@@TylerWolff , I totally think your critiques are valid! I agree with you about the character of the wife and Joe's performance. 😅
All for views ABC
That is just your own personal opinion
ABC was the first and only one to film the terrorist act so yeah no shit sherlock
I wish sci-fi movies would actually explore the implications of their premises more often, rather than just using them for cheap social commentary.

great video. Felt the same way about almost every point you made. Still a good movie, but it really dropped the ball before crossing the goal line.
Glad you enjoyed, and that I'm not *completely* alone on these things.
This film has that storytelling that reminds me of the 2D DreamWorks films along with the How to train your trilogy.

Also I would have liked to see Adrien Brody to do something we hadn't already seen from him
The director really showcased his talent and skill with the incredible camera work and cinematography. The sound design is instantly iconic as well. Unfortunately this is probably the most overrated movie of the year. Certainly not bad, but compared to other great movies this year like Conclave and The Substance, The Brutalist doesn't deliver on its cinematic experience. I dislike how it "insists" on its own drawn-out narrative and how the main character is so self-pitying, especially because its a fictional story so we're not really seeing a lived experience. Great movie, i'm just being extra critical and scrutinising here.
Given the things I said in my review, I’d hardly call any criticisms you had “extra” or “scrutinizing”.
Guys, thanks as always for watching! Let me know in the comments below what you think of Companion!
Most of these criticisms steam from an habit of watching films that tell us everything about the characters and leaves no space for imagination. We don't need to know what specific traumas Lazlo has. He is a world war 2 survivor turned refugee in America. Do we really need more? Maybe the ending feels a bit anti-climatic as we are expecting certain final scenes between him and his wife and him and Guy Pearce's character. But the question is should we be creating expectations that are not set up by the movie, but by our own understanding of how a movie narrative is suppose to unfold? The movie is great and is one of the most important movies of the last 10 or 15 years. It brought independent filmmaking and drama back into being a cinematic experience deserved to be seen on a theatre, in an era when this type of movie has been pushed into streaming.
If you've seen my channel long enough to know what kind movies & shows I enjoy that leave space to imagination (Beau Is Afraid, Flow, The Red Turtle, The Boy and the Heron, etc.) you wouldn't have said that. Not every WWII survivor went through the exact same hardships, and to suggest they did is unbelievably shallow. If there were clues set up as to what he specifically experienced (scars, voices in his head), there'd actually be something left to interpret. Saying absolutely nothing isn't leaving things up to imagination, that's just generic. The last paragraph, I completely disagree with other than-the filmmaking is incredible and it's a style that needs to come back to overall cinema. If you enjoyed it that much, by all means enjoy it. I just wish I had.
@@TylerWolff Just his experience as a refugee in America that we see is enough to drive him to addiction. His family (cousin) turns his back on him, he has no money, lives in hostel for homeless and refugees, he becomes a pickpocket, eats in food banks, etc, etc. This is the story of many people with addiction nowdays who didn't even experience war. So you think that on top of all this plus us knowing that he is WW2 survivor, we need to go into more details? Really? Also, we do have more information towards the end about his WW2 experience in the Venice sequence. If you remember, we learn that the interior of the building was inspired by cells where he and his wife were imprisoned.
Maybe if his family evicting him didn't feel so plot convenient or we actually experienced the atmosphere of these places he lives in long enough, it would be investing and empathetic. As for the Venice sequence, considering the movie already lost my interest even tho it's a movie's job to keep you invested, I can honestly say I don't remember that.
I think you missed the point about “the scene” between Lazlo and Harrison in the quarry. When my mom doesn’t understand a movie she says “a man with a large hat” sat in front of her. Was there a man with a hat sitting in front of you? We’ve seen the happy immigrant story a million times. This is one that went wrong. Lazlo is an uncompromising artist. You may have to watch it again. I couldn’t disagree with you more.
Anyone who says "You missed the point" before making a lame, childish insult should learn to disagree with a differing opinion on the internet. Just because a story's been done a million times doesn't automatically mean telling the opposite perspective is automatically good-especially when the opposite story's been told a million times in the past decade alone.
@@TylerWolff childish? maybe. Lame? Never! LOL. I bet The Brutalist wins best picture.
